Brief information on the grounds for obtaining a residence permit in Georgia:
A residence permit for education.
1. To obtain a residence permit for education, you must enroll in an accredited educational institution in Georgia – whether it’s a school or a higher education facility. For schools, this requires a student ID card, and for higher education institutions, proof of enrollment.
2. You must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the duration of your studies. This can be evidenced by a balance on the applicant’s account of at least two times the minimum subsistence level (approximately 500 Georgian Lari) per month for each academic year. For example, if someone is studying at university for four years, they must have 500 Georgian Lari in their account for each academic month over those four years. Alternatively, proof of funds can be provided through a legal income belonging to the applicant or their relatives.
The validity period for a residence permit is between six months and one year, and it can be extended up to 12 years.
Residence Permit may be obtained with the presence of an individual entrepreneur.
1. Each foreign employee must provide proof of an annual turnover of 50,000 Georgian Lari.
2. All taxes owed by the individual entrepreneur at the time of application must be fully paid.
Residence permit validity: between six months and one year, with the possibility of extension up to 12 years.
Residence Permit based on employment.
1. A employment contract with a company registered in Georgia.
2. Proof is required that for each foreign employee, the company’s annual turnover is at least 50,000 Georgian Lari (35,000 Georgian Lari if the company operates in the education or medical sectors).
Residence permit validity: between six months and one year, with the possibility of extension up to 12 years.
Residence Permit based on Property Ownership
1. It is necessary to own non-agricultural property valued by a certified appraiser at $100,000 or more.
2. This does not necessarily require purchasing the property for this amount; it is possible to purchase it cheaper, invest in renovations and improvements, and then engage an appraiser for subsequent application for a Residence Permit.
Residence Permit Validity: one year, extendable up to 12 years.
Residence Permit based on Investments
1.It is necessary to either purchase property (the price of the purchase here is important) for an amount of $300,000 or invest in the Georgian economy.
2.In the first year, turnover of investments must be demonstrated at $50,000, in the second year – $100,000, and for the remaining three years, a turnover of $120,000 must be shown.
The validity period of the Residence Permit is 5 years with the possibility of an indefinite Residence Permit after.
Residence Permit for Family Reunification
This applies to children, parents, spouses, and dependents. The following documentation is required:
1. Proof of kinship with a relative holding a Residence Permit, including the relative’s passport data and their Residence Permit.
2. Confirmation of sufficient funds for the duration of the Residence Permit, evidenced by having an account balance of 500 Georgian Lari per month, or proof of a legitimate income source for the applicant.
The validity period of the Residence Permit corresponds to the validity period of the relative’s Residence Permit.
